I understand exactly what you are saying and feel that if you are genuine at all times that the best practices as far as business and personal will always take form. You can't expect the best if your heart isn't right and your mind is not open.....

Love this! This blog makes me immediately think of my father - who has been a successful salesman for so many years because he is exalted and genuine. He has always told me there is one simple rule he has for everything 'Just do the next RIGHT thing'. All of the comments here remind me of that as well - doing what you know is right - genuinely helping people. We all know that as a customer - as a consumer of a product or service in any way - that is what we look for. So as an entrepreneur that is what we must look to provide - as that is what we ourselves seek when we are customers.

There was a 20 year period in my life (1987-2007) where I lost sight of some of my early creative ambitions. As responsibilities in everyday life grew, my involvement in music and my love of writing drifted away… It took a sudden heart attack in the fall of 2007 to make me realize the importance of following your passion.

It was one scary lonely night in the hospital that I came up with the persona of The Blues Blogger. I decided that with today’s technology, perhaps I could reach others who loved music as much as I do. I decided to dig deep into my earliest memories and write a blog about the music that shaped my initial aspirations.

Now almost three years later, while steadily writing weekly articles, my blog and therapeutic canvas has grown in a very wild way. However, even with all the requests, effort and activity, I do not make any money as The Blues Blogger. Perhaps it will happen one day. But on the other hand if nothing ever transpires, I’m still richer for the experience in ways I can never fully express. To know I may be helping keep the memories alive of those artists who have inspired me, and in some way contribute in introducing them to a new generation of music fans, gives me a strong feeling of satisfaction that money could never buy.

Does this make me exalted? I guess I’ll leave that up to others to decide… Thanks for the positive article, it makes you think.

I totally get this. Right now, my partner and I are in the process of starting a new venture. We've had to think on our feet because we live in an empoverished, isolated and rural area where there is no work. The first ideas we had brought in money, but only just enough to pay the bills, we just existed and took little pleasure from what we were doing. We are now thinking much bigger, trying not to worry about the unpaid bills for now and setting something up that we both feel passionate about. It's very important to us that we do something ethical and something we feel good about doing. The initial feedback we've had has been really good and we have high hopes. I feel it's crucial to feel excited and passionate before starting any type of business. If you don't feel passionate about what you're doing, how can you expect others to?
