What are you doing to your computer?

Our goal with this blog is to give you the information you need to keep your relationship with your computer from driving you crazy.  I need to know what drives you crazy!

Through the NY Entrepreneur’s Business Network, I attended a seminar that featured. Gabriel Shaoolian, the Founder of Blue Fountain Media.  I am going to be posting more of his advice in the next few weeks, since he gave an immense amount of information, all of it useful.  More than I can write about in one blog post.

One thing Mr. Shaoolian said (I’ve been struggling with implementing this while writing our blog), is that Content is King, and that content must be what the reader needs/wants to hear about.  He said that first you must define who your readers are.

We (Ced, Dan, Matt & I) write this blog for business people who are operating either independently or in a group of 20 or less.  Frankly, we could have a few very large clients, but we started this company because, individually, we’ve dealt with so many small businesses that are going under due to either faulty IT or cash flow being sucked into maintenance.  The clients we get enthusiastic about helping are in that size range: 1-20 users.

That being said, what do you want instructions or information on?  We can (and will) tell you about freeware/shareware we’ve researched and approved, we can (and will) give you how-to’s on short-cuts and “make-sure-you-nevers”.

Leave a comment, tell us what software you need to implement or what problems you’re having and we’ll try our best to post a how-to so you can easily resolve it.

I’m in Love with a FaceBook App

FavRav released it’s press release yesterday – I was lucky enough to get an advance preview of it.  If you use FB to promote your business, if you want a place to voice your joy about a company that went above and beyond, this is the tool to accomplish your purpose.

Sure beats the click thing on pricing.  No spamming, no in-your-face-obnoxious advertising – just a place to review the people you love to do business with, and a place to get sweet referrals.

You go here, and sign into FB, it’s that simple.  You can then click on the app on your FB site and write about any business you feel you must make a statement about.  You know that great job the cleaners did on your favorite shirt?  FavRav it.

On the advertising side, you pay a very small monthly fee to load all of your business info so people can find out more about you.  The way it works?  When someone makes a comment on FavRav about a business, it’s posted on their wall for all of their friends to see.  Targeted audience.  Real referrals.

If this app gets big enough, the next time you walk into a deli to get your coffee, the guy behind the counter just might smile instead of growl!  Now wouldn’t that be special?

Small business/home office: Why VoIP?

The way it was done in the past:  Traditional phone systems for business:

Wikipedia defines PBX:  Private branch exchange, a telephone exchange that serves a particular business or office.  PBXs make connections among the internal telephones of a private organization — usually a business — and also connects them to the public switched telephone network (PSTN) via trunk lines. Because they incorporate telephones, fax machines, modems, and more, the general term “extension” is used to refer to any end point on the branch.
